Function:

The Family Law Advisory Committee monitors the area of family law and conducts specific studies in that area.

Assignment:

The Committee will reintroduce to the 2011 Legislature, a bill intended to reorganize the domestic relations statutes into one chapter of the Kansas Statutes Annotated.

The Committee has completed its study of Senate Bill 522 regarding step-parent adoption and will provide its report to the 2011 Legislature. The Committee has also completed review of a report on a proposed Child Witness Protection Act and a report on common law marriage.

The Committee will continue to review the Uniform Parentage Act, the Kansas Protection from Abuse Act and the Kansas Protection from Stalking Act to determine whether the Acts should be updated to conform to current law and practices.
