Function:

The Criminal Law Advisory Committee monitors the Kansas Criminal Code and the Kansas Code of Criminal Procedure and conducts studies in those areas.

Assignment:

The Committee has reviewed 2008 SB 425 relating to the statute of limitations for certain sex offenses, 2008 SB 413 relating to the collection of DNA from an individual upon arrest but prior to a judicial determination of probable cause, and a proposed amendment to K.S.A. 65-4142. The Committee will provide reports to the 2009 Legislature on these subjects as well as propose amendments to K.S.A. 65-4142.

The Committee continues to monitor the Kansas Criminal Justice Recodification Commission’s work recodifying the criminal code.
