Function:

The Criminal Law Advisory Committee monitors the Kansas Criminal Code and the Kansas Code of Criminal Procedure and conducts studies in those areas.

Assignment:

The Committee completed a study of 2010 HB 2502 relating to a Child Witness Protection Act and provided its report to the 2011 Legislature. The Committee also completed a study regarding placing felony murder into its own statute and provided its report to the Judicial Council in December, 2010.

The Committee completed a review of the Kansas Criminal Justice Recodification Commission's report and 2010 HB 2668 and has proposed legislation related to the Commission's recommendations to the 2011 Legislature.

The Committe will continue to study the issue of involuntary commitment and release procedures of persons incompetent to stand trial.
