Function:The Civil Code Advisory Committee monitors the civil code and related areas of law. Assignment:The Committee will propose two bills in the 2011 legislative session. One is a clean-up bill following 2009 HB 2656, the civil code revision. The other is a new evidentiary rule based on Federal Rule of Evidence 502. The Committee will also monitor the progression of the apology law proposed by the Special Committee on the Judiciary. In addition, the Committee will study the amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure that became effective December 1, 2010, amending Rule 8 (affirmative defenses), Rule 26 (discovery and expert disclosures), and Rule 56 (summary judgments) to determine if similar changes should be made in the Kansas Code of Civil Procedure. |
